Micklegate (2)

The feast of Corpus Christi was first celebrated in York Minster in the early 14th century, but by around 1375, the event had developed into the performance of a series of religious pageants acted out on carts by the Guilds of York and drawn around the city to a specific route.  Put on annually for almost 200 years, these plays became the basis for the modern Mystery Plays which have thrilled audiences since 1951.

Join Russell Marwood as he follows the same route as those Pageant Wagons did over 600 years ago.  On the way Russell will explain the mystery in the “Mystery Plays” as well as point out locations of the plays, together with the sights and sounds of Medieval York.

Please meet at the Henry VII Experience at Micklegate Bar (YO1 6JX) for 13:00.

Walk lasts approximately 90 minutes and are suitable for age 12+. Please dress accordingly for the weather and be prepared to walk long distances and up steps as you follow York’s fascinating history.
