Micklegate

York has proudly sat behind its stone defences since Roman times. To this day, substantial forms of the city’s defences still remain and, indeed, York has more miles of intact wall than any other city in England.

So whether you are a local or just visiting our fine city, come along for a walk that stretches back through 2000 years of our history.

Historian Russell Marwood will describe to you a fascinating history of his home city from its early days as a Roman fort to his part in the royal visit of H.M Queen Elizabeth II.

Please meet at the Henry VII Experience at Micklegate Bar (YO1 6JX) for 13:00.

Walk lasts approximately 90 minutes and are suitable for ages 12+. Please dress accordingly for the weather, be prepared to walk long distances and up steps as you follow York’s fascinating history.
