Head on a spike at Micklegate BarCrime and Punishment (KS2)

Find out how York’s lawbreakers were dealt with in medieval, Tudor and Stuart times. Micklegate Bar was the site of many grisly events and you’ll have the chance to hear about some of the criminals that passed through her and decide if the punishment fits the crime.

Crime and Punishment throughout the ages (KS3)

Using local examples this workshop explores the processes of crime and punishment from the Middle Ages through to the eighteenth century, including the role played by Micklegate Bar. The workshop also includes interactive discussion and debate on judicial systems and punishments in past and present societies.
